machine translationIt is not authentic (ṣaḥīḥ), because it is from ʿAbd al-Malik, from the freedman (mawlā) of Ribʿī, who is unknown (majhūl), from Ribʿī.

machine translationI asked my father about a hadith narrated by al-Thawrī from ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr, from Hilāl, the freed slave of Ribʿī, from Ribʿī, from Ḥudhayfah, raised to the Prophet (marfūʿ): "Follow the two who come after me." Zāʾidah and others narrated it from ʿAbd al-Malik, from Ribʿī, from Ḥudhayfah, raised to the Prophet (marfūʿ). Which of the two is more authentic (aṣaḥḥ)? He said: What al-Thawrī said, for he added a man and transmitted the hadith well.

machine translationI said: Which of the two is more correct? My father said: Ibn Kathīr narrated to us, from al-Thawrī, from ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr, from a freed slave (mawlā) of Ribʿī, from Ribʿī, from Ḥudhayfah. I said: Which of the two is more correct? He said: What al-Thawrī said; he added a man and transmitted the hadith well. As for Ibrāhīm b. Saʿd, he named the man, and as for Ibn Kathīr, he did not name the freed slave (mawlā).
in المعجم الأوسط, p. 5509 - Bazzār

machine translationThe hadith of Ḥudhayfah is good (ḥasan).
