✧ A man asked the Prophet ﷺ, saying, "O Messenger of Allah, what do you say about a stray sheep?" He said, "It is for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, what do you say about dates hanging on a palm?" He said, "Its value, and the like of it with it, and lashes as an exemplary punishment. But when the drying-floor shelters it, then if its value reaches the price of a shield, there is amputation." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, what do you say about a mountain guarded flock?" He said, "Its value, and the like of it with it." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, what do you say about a found item?" He said, "If it is in a populated village or on a well-traveled road, announce it for a year. If you find its owner, then that is his; otherwise it is Allah's wealth, which He gives to whom He wills. And on buried treasure, the fifth is due."
