✧ The Prophet ﷺ entered one of the gardens of Madinah. He commanded me to close the gate, so I closed it. A man came and knocked on the gate. He said: “Open the gate and give him glad tidings of Paradise, and that he will lead the community after me.” I opened the gate, and it was Abu Bakr. I closed the gate. A man came and knocked on the gate. The Prophet ﷺ said: “O Anas, open the gate and give him glad tidings of Paradise, and that he will lead the community after Abu Bakr.” I opened the gate, and it was Umar. I gave him glad tidings of Paradise, and that he would take charge of the affair after Abu Bakr. I closed the gate. A man came and knocked on the gate. He said: “O Anas, open the gate and give him glad tidings of Paradise, and inform him that he will lead the community after Abu Bakr and Umar, and that he will be afflicted with tribulation.” And it was Uthman. He praised Allah and said, “Indeed we belong to Allah and to Him we return,” then he entered.
