حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضِرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ قَالَ: نَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمَعْنِيُّ قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ بْنِ أَيْمَنَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ:

نَزَلَ بِجَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ ضَيْفٌ لَهُ، فَجَاءَهُمْ بِخُبْزٍ وَخَلٍّ، فَقَالَ: كُلُوا، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: نِعْمَ الْإِدَامُ الْخَلُّ هَلَاكًا بِالْقَوْمِ أَنْ يَحْتَقِرُوا مَا قُدِّمَ إِلَيْهِمْ، وَهَلَاكٌ بِالرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَحْتَقِرَ مَا فِي بَيْتِهِ أَنْ يُقَدِّمَهُ إِلَى أَصْحَابِهِ

Translation

✧ A guest of his came to Jabir b. 'Abd Allah, so he brought them bread and vinegar, and said: "Eat, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'What an excellent condiment is vinegar. It is a ruinous thing for a people that they should despise what is presented to them, and it is a ruinous thing for a man that he should despise what is in his house that he may present to his companions.'"
