حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْأَشْعَثِ قَالَ: نَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ قَالَ: نَا أَبِي قَالَ: نَا الْجَرَّاحُ بْنُ مَلِيحٍ قَالَ: نَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ ذِي حِمَايَةَ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ قَالَ:

سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ عَنْ قِيَامِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ: " كَانَ يُوضَعُ لَهُ وَضُوءُهُ وَسِوَاكُهُ، ثُمَّ يَبْعَثُهُ اللهُ مَتَى شَاءَ أَنْ يَبْعَثَهُ لَهُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ، فَيَسْتَاكُ، وَيَتَوَضَّأُ، ثُمَّ يَقُومُ فَيَرْكَعُ تِسْعَ رَكَعَاتٍ، وَرَكْعَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ قَاعِدٌ، وَكَانَ إِذَا مَرِضَ أَوْ لَمْ يَقُمْ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ صَلَّى اثْنَتَيْ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً

✧ I asked ʿAʾishah about the night prayer of the Prophet ﷺ. She said: "His water for ablution and his tooth-stick were placed for him, then Allah would awaken him whenever He willed to awaken him during the night. He would use the tooth-stick, perform ablution, then stand and pray nine rakʿahs, and two rakʿahs while sitting. And when he was ill or did not stand at night, he would pray twelve rakʿahs."
