✧ I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the beginning of his mission, when he was hiding. I said, “What are you?” He said, “I am a prophet.” I said, “What is a prophet?” He said, “A messenger of Allah.” I said, “Has Allah sent you?” He said, “Yes.” I said, “With what has He sent you?” He said, “That you worship Allah, break the idols, and maintain family ties.” I said, “Yes, He has sent you. Who has followed you in this?” He said, “A free man and a slave,” meaning Abu Bakr and Bilal. Amr b. Abasah used to say, “I am a quarter of Islam, for I embraced Islam.” Then I said, “Shall I follow you, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “No, but return to your people. When you hear that we have prevailed, come to us.”
