Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered the collection of charity, and a man would come with the amount of his wealth and his charity. I wept, and he said, "O Abū Dharr, why do you weep?" I said, "The wealthy have gone with the reward." He said, "How so?" I said, "They pray as we pray, they fast as we fast, and they find something to give in charity while we do not." He said, "Rather, the wealthy are the lowest, except those who say with their wealth this way and that way, and few are they." I said, "How, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "There is no owner of camels who does not pay their zakah in their abundance and hardship except that they will come on the Day of Resurrection in a wide, flat, barren land, trampling him with their hooves; every time the first of them passes, the last of them returns to him, until judgment is passed among the people." I said, "And horses, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Horses are for three groups: whoever acquires them as a preparation for the cause of Allah, their hardship and ease will be for him; and by Allah, if they cut across wide open spaces and then climbed one or two high places and descended upon a green pasture, that would be for him. And whoever acquires them out of pride, they will be a burden on him on the Day of Resurrection." They said, "And donkeys, O Prophet of Allah?" He said, "Allah has not revealed anything concerning them except this single unique verse: 'So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.'"
