حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الرَّازِيُّ قَالَ: نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ قَالَ: نَا أَرْطَاةُ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ، قَالَ: نَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي كَرِيمَةَ قَالَ:

سَمِعْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ عَلَى مِنْبَرِ الْكُوفَةِ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: إِيَّاكُمْ وَلِبَاسَ الرُّهْبَانِ، فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ تَرَهَّبَ وَتَشَبَّهَ فَلَيْسَ مِنِّي

✧ I heard ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib while he was delivering a sermon on the pulpit of Kufa saying: “O people, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Beware of the clothing of monks, for whoever becomes a monk or imitates them is not of me.”
