✧ I have been commanded to fight the people until they say: 'There is no deity but Allah.' When they say it, they protect from me their blood and their wealth, except by its right. It was asked: 'What is its right?' He said: 'Adultery after being married, or disbelief after Islam, or killing a soul, for which he is killed.'

machine translationʿAbdullāh b. al-Mubārak, Yaḥyā b. Ayyūb al-Miṣrī and Muḥammad b. ʿĪsā b. Sumayʿ narrate it from Ḥumayd, from Anas. ʿAlī b. al-Madīnī, when this hadith was mentioned to him from Ibn al-Mubārak, from Ḥumayd, from Anas, said: "I fear it is an error; perhaps it is from Ḥumayd, from al-Ḥasan, as a mursal report." But it is not so, because Muʿādh b. Muʿādh al-ʿAnbarī is among the most reliable (athbāt), and he narrated it from Ḥumayd al-Ṭawīl, from Maymūn b. Siyāh, from Anas as his own statement, not raised to the Prophet (ghayr marfūʿ), and that is the correct version.
