حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ قَالَ: نَا أَبِي قَالَ: نَا مُؤَمَّلُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ قَالَ: نَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ:
لَمَّا مَاتَ النَّجَاشِيُّ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: " اسْتَغْفِرُوا لِأَخِيكُمْ فَقَالَ بَعْضُ النَّاسِ: يَأْمُرُنَا أَنْ نَسْتَغْفِرَ لَهُ وَقَدْ مَاتَ بِأَرْضِ الْحَبَشَةِ ؟ فَنَزَلَتْ: وَإِنَّ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ لَمَنْ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللهِ وَمَا أُنْـزِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ

✧ When the Negus died, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Seek forgiveness for your brother." Some people said, "He commands us to seek forgiveness for him, yet he died in the land of Abyssinia?" Then it was revealed: "And indeed among the People of the Scripture are those who believe in God and what has been sent down to you" [Q Āl ʿImrān 3:199].
