حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الطَّائِفِيِّ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الشَّرِيدِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ:
اسْتَنْشَدَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: هَلْ تَرْوِي مِنْ شِعْرِ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ أَبِي الصَّلْتِ شَيْئًا ؟، فَأَنْشَدْتُهُ مِائَةَ قَافِيَةٍ، فَجَعَلْتُ كُلَّمَا مَرَرْتُ عَلَى بَيْتٍ قَالَ: " هِيهِ " ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " كَادَ أَنْ يُسْلِمَ فِي شِعْرِهِ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked me to recite poetry, saying: “Do you relate any of the poetry of Umayyah b. Abi al-Salt?” I recited to him one hundred rhyming lines, and each time I passed a verse, he would say, “Go on.” Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “He almost submitted in his poetry.”
