وَعَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ ثَابِتِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، أَنَّ ثَابِتَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ قَالَ:
يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، لَقَدْ خَشِيتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ قَدْ هَلَكْتُ، فَقَالَ: " لِمَ ؟ " قَالَ: فَأَجِدُنِي أُحِبُّ الْخُيَلَاءَ، وَيَنْهَى اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنْ نَرْفَعَ أَصْوَاتَنَا فَوْقَ صَوْتِكَ، وَأَنَا جَهِيرُ الصَّوْتِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: يَا ثَابِتُ، أَلَيْسَ تَرْضَى أَنْ تَعِيشَ حَمِيدًا، وَتُقْتَلَ شَهِيدًا وَتَدْخُلَ الْجَنَّةَ ؟
Translation

✧ He said: "O Messenger of God, I fear that I may have perished." He said: "Why?" He said: "I find myself loving pride, and God, Mighty and Majestic, forbids us to raise our voices above your voice, and I have a loud voice." The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "O Thabit, are you not pleased that you will live praiseworthy, be killed as a martyr, and enter Paradise?"
