حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ، قَالَ: نَا مَعْمَرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ قَالَ: نَا عَامِرُ بْنُ مُدْرِكٍ قَالَ: نَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ مَطَرِ بْنِ طَرِيفٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ قَالَ:

قُلْتُ لِعَلِيٍّ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، هَلْ عِنْدَكُمْ مِنَ الْوَحْيِ إِلَّا مَا فِي كِتَابِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ؟ فَقَالَ: لَا، وَالَّذِي فَلَقَ الْحَبَّةَ، وَبَرَأَ النَّسَمَةَ، مَا أَعْلَمُهُ، إِلَّا فَهْمٌ يُعْطِيهِ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ رَجُلًا فِي الْقُرْآنِ، وَمَا فِي الصَّحِيفَةِ "، قُلْتُ: وَمَا فِي الصَّحِيفَةِ ؟ قَالَ: الْعَقْلُ وَفَكَاكُ الْأَسِيرِ، وَأَنْ لَا يُقْتَلَ مُسْلِمٌ بِكَافِرٍ

✧ I said to 'Ali: 'O Commander of the Faithful, do you have any revelation besides what is in the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic?' He said: 'No, by Him who split the grain and created the soul, I do not know of anything except an understanding that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, gives a man in the Qur'an, and what is in the page.' I said: 'What is in the page?' He said: 'The blood-money and the ransoming of the captive, and that a Muslim should not be killed for a disbeliever.'
