حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ، قَالَ: نَا أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ بْنُ السَّرْحِ قَالَ: وَجَدْتُ فِي كِتَابِ خَالِي: حَدَّثَنِي عُقَيْلُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ

أَنَّ أَبَاهُ كَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ: أَنِ الْقَ سُبَيْعَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيَّةَ، فَسَلْهَا: كَيْفَ قَضَى لَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ؟ قَالَ: فَأَخْبَرَنِي مَالِكُ بْنُ أَوْسِ بْنِ الْحَدَثَانِ أَنَّ سُبَيْعَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيَّةَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ، أَنَّ زَوْجِهَا سَعْدَ بْنَ خَوْلَةَ تُوُفِّيَ عَنْهَا بِمَكَّةَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ، وَهِيَ حَامِلٌ، فَلَمْ تَلْبَثْ بَعْدَهُ إِلَّا يَسِيرًا حَتَّى وَضَعَتْ، فَخَطَبَهَا أَبُو السَّنَابِلِ بْنُ بَعْكَكَ بْنِ السَّبَّاقِ مِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ الدَّارِ، فَأَبَتْ أَنْ تَنْكِحَهُ، فَقَالَ: أَمَا إِنَّكِ لَا تَحِلِّينَ حَتَّى تَعْتَدِّي آخِرَ الْأَجَلَيْنِ، " فَاسْتَفْتَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، فَأَذِنَ لَهَا فِي النِّكَاحِ

✧ His father wrote to him: Meet Subay'ah al-Aslamiyyah and ask her how the Messenger of God ﷺ ruled for her. He said: Malik b. Aws b. al-Hadathan informed me that Subay'ah al-Aslamiyyah informed him that her husband Sa'd b. Khawlah died while she was in Makkah with the Messenger of God ﷺ during the Farewell Pilgrimage, and she was pregnant. She did not wait long after him before she gave birth. Abu al-Sanabil b. Ba'kak b. al-Sabbaq of Banu 'Abd al-Dar proposed to her, but she refused to marry him. He said: You are not lawful until you observe the longer of the two terms. She sought the ruling of the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he permitted her to marry.
