✧ When it was the day of Umm Habibah with the Prophet ﷺ, someone knocked on the door. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'See who this is.' They said: 'Mu'awiyah.' He said: 'Give him permission to enter.' He entered, and on his ear was a pen of his with which he writes. He said: 'What is this pen on your ear, O Mu'awiyah?' He said: 'A pen I have prepared for Allah and His Messenger.' He said: 'May Allah reward you well on behalf of your Prophet. By Allah, I did not employ you as a scribe except by revelation from Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and I do nothing, small or great, except by revelation from Allah, Mighty and Majestic. How will you be when Allah has clothed you with a garment?'—meaning the caliphate. Umm Habibah stood up and sat before him, and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, will Allah clothe my brother with a garment?' He said: 'Yes, but in it there are flaws, and flaws, and flaws.' She said: 'O Messenger of Allah, then supplicate for him.' He said: 'O Allah, guide him with guidance, keep him away from ruin, and forgive him in the Hereafter and in the first (life).'
