حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ، قَالَ: نَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْأَصْفَرِ قَالَ: نَا بِشْرُ بْنُ آدَمَ الْأَكْبَرُ قَالَ: نَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ مَعْنٍ عَنْ أَبَانَ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَبِيدَةَ. عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ:

قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " اقْرَأْ عَلَيَّ "، فَقُلْتُ: أَقْرَأُ عَلَيْكَ، وَعَلَيْكَ أُنْزِلَ ؟ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَسْمَعَهُ مِنْ غَيْرِي، فَافْتَتَحْتُ، فَقَرَأْتُ سُورَةَ النِّسَاءِ، حَتَّى بَلَغْتُ: فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جِئْنَا مِنْ كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ بِشَهِيدٍ وَجِئْنَا بِكَ عَلَى هَؤُلاءِ شَهِيدًا فَاغْرَوْرَقَتْ عَيْنَاهُ ﷺ، فَأَمْسَكْتُ، فَقَالَ لِي: " سَلْ تُعْطَهْ

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said to me: "Recite to me." I said: "Should I recite to you, when it was sent down upon you?" He said: "I love to hear it from someone other than myself." So I began and recited Surat al-Nisa' until I reached: 'So how will it be when We bring from every community a witness and We bring you against these as a witness?' His eyes ﷺ filled with tears, so I stopped. He said to me: "Ask, and you will be given."
