حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ، قَالَ: نَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْعَنَزِيُّ قَالَ: نَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ الْعِجْلِيُّ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ. عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

أَتَانِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا جِبْرِيلُ، حَدِّثْنِي بِفَضَائِلِ عُمَرَ فِي السَّمَاءِ. فَقَالَ جِبْرِيلُ: لَوْ حَدَّثْتُكَ بِفَضَائِلِ عُمَرَ مَا لَبِثَ نُوحٌ فِي قَوْمِهِ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ إِلَّا خَمْسِينَ عَامًا، مَا نَفِدَتْ فَضَائِلُ عُمَرَ، وَإِنَّ عُمَرَ حَسَنَةٌ مِنْ حَسَنَاتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ؓ

✧ Gabriel ﷺ came to me, and I said: 'O Gabriel, tell me about the virtues of Umar in heaven.' Gabriel said: 'If I were to tell you of Umar's virtues for as long as Noah remained among his people – a thousand years less fifty – his virtues would not be exhausted. Indeed, Umar is one of the good deeds of Abu Bakr ؓ.'
