حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ، قَالَ: نَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي الْمَضَاءِ قَالَ: كَتَبْتُ مِنْ كِتَابِ خَلَفِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَسْعَدَةَ قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ اللهِ الرُّومِيُّ. عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ
أَنَّهُ مَرَّ بِسُوقِ الْمَدِينَةِ، فَوَقَفَ عَلَيْهَا، فَقَالَ: " يَا أَهْلَ السُّوقِ، مَا أَعْجَزَكُمْ " قَالُوا: وَمَا ذَاكَ يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ؟ قَالَ: " ذَاكَ مِيرَاثُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يُقْسَمُ، وَأَنْتُمْ هَاهُنَا لَا تَذْهَبُونَ فَتَأَخُذُونَ نَصِيبَكُمْ مِنْهُ ! " قَالُوا: وَأَيْنَ هُوَ ؟ قَالَ: " فِي الْمَسْجِدِ " فَخَرَجُوا سِرَاعًا إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ، وَوَقَفَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ لَهُمْ حَتَّى رَجَعُوا، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ: " مَا لَكُمْ ؟ " قَالُوا: يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ فَقَدْ أَتَيْنَا الْمَسْجِدَ، فَدَخَلْنَا، فَلَمْ نَرَ فِيهِ شَيْئًا يُقْسَمُ. فَقَالَ لَهُمْ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ: " أَمَا رَأَيْتُمْ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ أَحَدًا ؟ " قَالُوا: بَلَى، رَأَيْنَا قَوْمًا يُصَلُّونَ، وَقَوْمًا يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ، وَقَوْمًا يَتَذَاكَرُونَ الْحَلَالَ وَالْحَرَامَ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ: " وَيْحَكُمْ، فَذَاكَ مِيرَاثُ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ ".

✧ He passed by the market of Madinah and stopped at it, then said: “O people of the market, how incapable you are!” They said: “And what is that, O Abu Hurayrah?” He said: “That is the inheritance of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ being distributed, and you are here not going to take your share of it!” They said: “And where is it?” He said: “In the mosque.” So they rushed out to the mosque, and Abu Hurayrah waited for them until they returned. He said to them: “What is the matter with you?” They said: “O Abu Hurayrah, we went to the mosque, entered it, and did not see anything being distributed.” Abu Hurayrah said to them: “Did you not see anyone in the mosque?” They said: “Yes, we saw people praying, people reciting the Qur’an, and people discussing the lawful and the unlawful.” Abu Hurayrah said to them: “Woe to you! That is the inheritance of Muhammad ﷺ.”
