✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent out a raiding party or an army, he said: "Raid in the path of Allah, fight those who disbelieve in Allah. Do not steal from the spoils, do not act treacherously, do not mutilate, and do not kill a child or an old man." He said to their commander: "When you besiege a fortress or the people of a village, call them to one of three things: to enter Islam, or to pay the jizya, or to fight you. And when you besiege the people of a fortress or the people of a village, and they want to come down upon the judgment of Allah, do not bring them down upon the judgment of Allah, for you do not know whether you will attain in them the judgment of Allah or not. But bring them down upon your judgment and the judgment of your companions. And when you besiege the people of a fortress or the people of a village, and they ask you to give them the protection of Allah and the protection of His Messenger, do not give them the protection of Allah and the protection of His Messenger, but give them your protection and the protection of your companions. For if you break your protections and the protections of your fathers, that is better for you than breaking the protection of Allah and the protection of His Messenger."
