حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ، قَالَ: نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صُدْرَانَ قَالَ: نَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ
أَنَّ رَجُلًا جَاءَ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ، فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ شَيْءٍ، فَقَالَ لَهُ زَيْدٌ: عَلَيْكَ بِأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، فَإِنِّي بَيْنَمَا أَنَا وَأَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ وَفُلَانٌ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، نَدْعُو وَنَذْكُرُ رَبَّنَا عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، إِذْ خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى جَلَسَ إِلَيْنَا، فَسَكَتْنَا، فَقَالَ: " عُودُوا لِلَّذِي كُنْتُمْ فِيهِ ". قَالَ زَيْدٌ: فَدَعَوْتُ أَنَا وَصَاحِبِي قَبْلَ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، وَجَعَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُؤَمِّنُ عَلَى دُعَائِنَا، ثُمَّ دَعَا أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ، فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِثْلَ مَا سَأَلَكَ صَاحِبَايَ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا لَا يُنْسَى. فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: " آمِينَ " فَقُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، نَحْنُ نَسْأَلُ اللهَ عِلْمًا لَا يُنْسَى. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: سَبَقَكُمَا بِهَا الْغُلَامُ الدَّوْسِيُّ

✧ A man came to Zayd b. Thabit and asked him about something. Zayd said to him: 'Go to Abu Hurayrah, for while I, Abu Hurayrah, and so-and-so were in the mosque one day, supplicating and remembering our Lord, Mighty and Majestic, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us and sat with us, and we fell silent. He said: "Return to what you were doing." Zayd said: So I and my companion supplicated before Abu Hurayrah, and the Prophet ﷺ was saying ameen to our supplications. Then Abu Hurayrah supplicated, saying: "O Allah, I ask You for the like of what my two companions asked You, and I ask You for knowledge that is not forgotten." The Prophet ﷺ said: "Ameen." We said: "O Messenger of Allah, we ask Allah for knowledge that is not forgotten." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The Dawsī youth has beaten you to it."
