حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ خَالِدِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ قَالَ: نَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ، عَنْ فَضْلٍ. قَالَ:

سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ - وَمَعَهُ قُصَّةٌ مِنْ شَعَرٍ لِلنِّسَاءِ - فَقَالَ: إِنَّ ابْنَةَ قَرَظَةَ أَخْبَرَتْنِي أَنَّ النِّسَاءَ يَلْبَسْنَ هَذَا، وَإِنَّ مِنْ رَحْمَةِ اللهِ بِكُمْ أَنْ عَلِمْتُ ذَلِكَ لِمَا عِنْدِي مِنَ الْعِلْمِ بِهِ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: مَنْ زَادَ فِي شَعَرِهِ شَيْئًا لَيْسَ مِنْهُ، فَإِنَّهُ يَزِيدُ فِيهِ زُورًا

✧ I heard Muʿāwiyah—and he had a lock of women’s hair—say: “The daughter of Qaraẓah told me that women wear this, and it is from God’s mercy to you that I came to know that, for I have knowledge of it. I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: ‘Whoever adds to his hair something that is not from it, then he adds falsehood to it.’”
