Zubayr b. al-ʿAwwām
"عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَسَنٍ الْمَخْزُومِيِّ، حَدثَّتْنِى أُمُّ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبيهَا، عنْ جَدِّهَا الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ: لَمَّا خَلَّفَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ نسَاءَهُ يَوْمَ أُحُد بِالْمدينَةِ خَلَفَهُنَّ في فَارعٍ فِيهِنَّ صَفِيَّةُ بنْتُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ، وَخَلَّفَ فِيِهِن حَسَّان بْن ثَابِتٍ فَأَقْبَلَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْمُشْرِكِينَ لِيَدْخُلَ عَلَيْهِنَّ، فَقَالَت صَفِيَّةُ لحَسَّانَ: عِنْدَكَ الرَّجُلُ فَجَبُنَ حَسَّانُ عَنْهُ وَأَبَى عَلَيْهَا، فَتَنَاوَلَتْ صَفِيَّةُ السَّيْفَ فَضَرَبَتْ بِهِ الْمُشْرِكَ حَتَّى قَتَلَتْهُ فَأُخبِرَ بِذَلِكَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ فَضَرَبَ لِصَفِيَّةَ بِسَهْمٍ كَمَا يَضْرِبُ لِلرِّجَالِ".

Ḥasan al-Makhzūmī: Umm ʿUrwah narrated to me, from her father, from his grandfather al-Zubayr, who said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left his women behind in Medina on the day of Uḥud, he left them in Fāriʿ, and among them was Ṣafiyyah bint ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, and he left Ḥassān b. Thābit with them. A man from among the polytheists came forward to enter upon them, so Ṣafiyyah said to Ḥassān: 'The man is near you.' But Ḥassān was too cowardly to face him and refused her. So Ṣafiyyah took the sword and struck the polytheist with it until she killed him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was informed of that, so he allotted Ṣafiyyah a share, just as one is allotted for the men."
