✧ al-A'sha al-Mazini
" أَتَيْتُ نَبِيَّ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَنْشَدْتُهُ: يَا مَالِكَ النَّاسِ وَدَيَّانَ العَرَبِ... إنِّى لَقِيتُ ذَرْبَةً مِنَ الذِّرَبِ غَدَوْتُ أَبْغيهَا الطَّعَامَ فِى رَجَبٍ... فَخَلفَتْنِى بِنِزَاعٍ وَهَدَبٍ أَخْلَفَت الْعَهْدَ وَلَطَّتْ بِالذَّنَبِ... وَهُنَّ شَرُّ غَالِبٍ لِمَنْ غَلَبَ فَجَعَلَ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ يَتَمَثَّلُهَا وَيَقُولُ: وَهُنَّ شَرُّ غَالِبٍ لِمَنْ غَلَبَ".
Translation
✧ “I came to the Prophet of God ﷺ and recited to him: ‘O Master of mankind and Judge of the Arabs … indeed I have encountered a harsh one among the harsh. I set out seeking from her food in Rajab … but she met me with pulling-away and with eyelashes. She broke the pledge and tucked her tail … and they are the worst of victors over those they defeat.’ Then the Prophet ﷺ began repeating it and saying: ‘And they are the worst of victors over those they defeat.’”
