عَنْ خَرَشَةَ بنِ الْحُرِّ
"عَنْ خَرَشَةَ بنِ الْحُرِّ قال: رأيتُ عمَر بن الخطابِ يضربُ أَكُفَّ الرجالِ في صومِ رجبٍ حتى يَضَعُوهَا فِى الطعامِ، ويقول: رجَبٌ وما رجبٌ؟ ! إنما رجبٌ شهرٌ كانتْ تعظِّمهُ أهلُ الجاهلية، فلما جاءَ الإسلامُ تُرِكَ".
Translation
Chain of narrators
- Kharashah b. al-Ḥur
✧ On the authority of Kharashah ibn al-Ḥurr, he said: I saw ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb striking the hands of the men for fasting in Rajab until they put them into the food, and he would say: “Rajab—and what is Rajab?! Rajab is only a month that the people of the pre-Islamic era used to venerate; when Islam came, it was abandoned.”
