Machine translation, not reviewed
He related that Yaḥyā b. Zayd al-ʿAlawī was carried to Bukhārā in shackles, and news of his father's death was brought to him. A poet came in and recited a poem to him, and he said: "Leave what you are saying, and listen to what I say." Then he began to recite: [Metre: al-ṭawīl] If time has afflicted you with a trial... whose hardship has grown great and severe upon you, And you have met with it, then bear up under calamities... before which souls were tormented and wearied. So be patient and wait for it to run its course... for misfortunes, when they follow one upon another, pass away.
