He said: "ʿUbaydullāh b. Ziyād seized the nephew of Ṣafwān b. Muḥriz and imprisoned him. Ṣafwān left none of the notables without seeking their favour for his sake, but he saw no success for his need. So he spent the night in his place of prayer, and someone came to him in his sleep and said: Arise, O Ṣafwān, and seek your need from its proper direction. He said: So he arose in alarm, performed ablution, then prayed, then supplicated. Then there was his nephew knocking at the door. He said: Who is this? He said: I am so-and-so, meaning his nephew. He said: And at this hour? He said: The governor woke in the middle of the night and called for torches and the police, and the doors of the prisons were opened, and it was called out: Where is the nephew of Ṣafwān b. Muḥriz? Release him, for I have been deprived of sleep since tonight."
