أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْقَطَّانُ, أَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ, نَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ, نَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ, أَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ, أَنَا سُفْيَانُ, عَنْ أَبِيهِ, عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ مَاعِزٍ,
قَالَ: كَانَ فِي وَجْهِ رَبِيعِ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ شَيْءٌ, قَالَ: فَكَانَ فَمُهُ يَسِيلُ, فَرَأَى فِي وَجْهِهِ الْمَسَاءَةَ, فَقَالَ: " يَا بَكْرُ, مَا يَسُرُّنِي أَنَّ هَذَا الَّذِي بِي بِأَغْنَى عَلَى اللهِ " وَقَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَيْضًا سُفْيَانُ, قَالَ: قِيلَ لِلرَّبِيعِ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ وَكَانَ أَصَابَهُ فَالِجٍ, لَقَدْ تَدَاوَيْتَ, فَقَالَ: " لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ, ثُمَّ ذَكَرْتُ عَادًا وَثَمُودَ وَأَصْحَابَ الرَّسِّ, وَقُرُونًا بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ كَثِيرًا, كَانَتْ فِيهِمْ أَوْجَاعٌ وَكَانَتْ لَهُمْ أَطِبَّاءُ فَمَا بَقِيَ الْمُدَاوِي, وَلَا الْمُدَاوَى إِلَّا وَقَدْ فَنِيَ "
