From the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "Whoever takes charge of his brother (for burial), let him make his shroud good, for they visit one another in them." And if this is authentic, it does not contradict the saying of Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq ؓ regarding the shroud, that it is only for the pus (muhl), meaning the discharge; for that is how it is in our sight, while it is as Allah wills in Allah's knowledge. As He said of the martyrs: {بَلْ أَحْيَاءٌ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ يُرْزَقُونَ} [Āl ʿImrān: 169], yet one sees them wallowing in blood, and then they are put to trial. They are only like that in our sight, while in the unseen they are as Allah has informed about them. Had they been in our sight as Allah has informed about them, belief in the unseen would be removed.
