حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيُّ، أنا أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ مَطَرٍ، أنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الْأَعْلَى بْنَ حَمَّادٍ،
يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْحُكَمَاءِ:" [البحر البسيط] لَأَشْكُرَنَّكَ مَعْرُوفًا هَمَمْتُ بِهِ... إِنَّ اهْتِمَامَكَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ مَعْرُوفُ وَلَا أَذُمُّكَ إِنْ لَمْ يُمْضِهِ قَدْرٌ... فالشَّيْءُ بِالْقَدَرِ الْمَحْتُوفِ مَصْرُوفُ وَقَالَ غَيْرُهُ:" فَالرِّزْقُ بِالْقَدَرِ الْمَصْرُوفِ مَصْرُوفُ"
