وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، قَالَا: نا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، قَالَ: نا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُكْرَمٍ، قَالَ: نا أَبُو النَّضْرِ هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ، نا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ، قَالَ: نا كِنَانَةُ مَوْلَى صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ حُيَيِّ بْنِ أَخْطَبَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، فَقُلْتُ: أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَ مِنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ؟
قَالَ: أُحَدِّثُكَ مَا لَمْ أَسْمَعْ؟ قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ: " إِنَّ أَبْخَلَ النَّاسِ مَنْ بَخِلَ بِالسَّلَامِ، وَالْمَغْبُونُ مَنْ لَمْ يَرُدَّهُ، وَإِنْ حَالَتْ بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَ أَخِيكَ شَجَرَةٌ فَإِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تَبْدَأَهُ بِالسَّلَامِ - أَوْ لَا يَبْدَأَكَ بِالسَّلَامِ - فَافْعَلْ ". شَكَّ أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ
