أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، أنا أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا الْبَلَاذُرِيُّ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْعُمَرِيُّ، نا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْجُنَيْدِ، نا الصَّبَّاحُ بْنُ حَبَّانَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ مَنْصُورٍ،
قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ الصِّبْيَانَ يَرْجُمُونَ بُهْلُولًا بِالْحَصَا، قَالَ: فَوَقَعَتْ بِهِ حَصَاةٌ أَدْمَتْهُ، فَأَنْشَأَ يَقُولُ:" [البحر الرمل] حَسْبِيَ اللهُ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَيْهِ... مَنْ نَوَاصِي الْخَلْقِ طُرًّا بِيَدَيْهِ لَيْسَ لِلْهَارِبِ مِنْ مَهْرَبِهِ... أَبَدًا مِنْ مَهْرَبٍ إِلَّا إِلَيْهِ رُبَّ رَامٍ لِي بِأَحْجَارِ الْأَذَى... لَمْ أَجِدْ بُدًّا مِنَ الْعَطْفِ عَلَيْهِ"، قُلْتُ: تَعْطِفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَهُمْ يَرْجُمُونَكَ؟ فَقَالَ:" اسْكُتْ، لَعَلَّ اللهَ يَطَّلِعُ عَلَى غَمِّي وَشِدَّةِ فَرَحِ هَؤُلَاءِ فَيَهَبَنِي لَهُمْ، أَوْ يَهَبَهُمْ لِي"
