أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، نا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، نا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، نا يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ، نا السَّهْمِيُّ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ بَكْرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي بِشْرٌ أَبُو نَصْرٍ،
أَنْ عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ بْنَ مَرْوَانَ، دَخَلَ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ وَعِنْدَهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ فَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ جَلَسَ، فَلَمْ يَلْبَثْ أَنْ نَهَضَ، فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ: مَا أَكْمَلَ مُرُوءَةَ هَذَا الْفَتَى فَقَالَ عَمْرٌو: " يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِنَّهُ أَخَذَ بِأَخْلَاقٍ أَرْبَعَةٍ، وَتَرَكَ أَخْلَاقًا ثَلَاثَةً، إِنَّهُ أَخَذَ بِأَحْسَنِ الْبِشْرِ إِذَا لَقِيَ، وَبِأَحْسَنِ الْحَدِيثِ إِذَا حَدَّثَ، وَبِأَحْسَنِ الِاسْتِمَاعِ إِذَا حَدَّثَ، وَبِأَيْسَرِ الْمُؤْنَةِ إِذَا خُولِفَ، وَتَرَكَ مِزَاحَ مَنْ لَا يَثِقُ بِعَقْلِهِ وَلَا دِينِهِ، وَتَرَكَ مُخَالَفَةَ لِئَامِ النَّاسِ، وَتَرَكَ مِنَ الْكَلَامِ كُلَّ مَا يُعْتَذَرُ مِنْهُ "
