"Indeed Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has a abode made of a pearl or a gem, above which is another gem. In it are seventy thousand palaces, in every palace are seventy thousand houses, and in every house are seventy thousand rooms. None will dwell in it except a prophet, or a truthful one (ṣiddīq), or a martyr, or a just ruler, or a man who has made himself the judge over his own soul." Salamah said: I said to ʿUbayd: Who is the man who has made himself the judge over his own soul? He said: He is the man who seeks the unlawful, in wealth and in women, and it is presented to him; if he wished he could go forward, and if he wished he could hold back, but he leaves it out of fear of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. That is the man who has made himself the judge over his own soul.
