أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ بِشْرَانَ، أَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ صَفْوَانَ، ثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي الدُّنْيَا، حَدَّثَنِي هَارُونُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ، ثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ صُبَيْحٍ، مَوْلَى عَمْرِو بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ الْقَاضِي
قَالَ: كُنْتُ مَعَ أَيُّوبَ السَّخْتِيَانِيِّ فَرَأَى قَوْمًا يَلْعَبُونَ بِالشِّطْرَنْجِ، فَقَالَ لِمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ فَقَالَ: " مَنْ يَلْعَبْ بِالنَّرْدِ فَقَدْ عَصَى اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ " فَقَالَ لَهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ عُبَيْدَةَ: لَيْسَ هَذَا نَرْدًا هَذَا شَطْرَنْجٌ، فَقَالَ أَيُّوبُ: النَّرْدُ وَالشِّطْرَنْجُ سَوَاءٌ
