Chain of narrators
machine translationAbū ʿAbdillāh al-Ḥāfiẓ informed us: Jaʿfar al-Khawwāṣ told us: al-Junayd narrated to me
Machine translation, not reviewed
He said: "One day I entered upon Sarī, and he said to me: Shall I amaze you with a sparrow that comes and lands on this portico? I had prepared a small morsel for it, and I would crumble it in my palm, and it would land on the tips of my fingers and eat. Then at one time it landed on the portico, and I crumbled the bread in my hand, but it did not land on my hand as it used to. So I reflected within myself: perhaps it is wary of me. Then I found that I had eaten perfumed salt, so I said within myself: I repent from perfumed salt. Then it landed on my hand, ate, and went away."
