He said: "The favours of Allah in what He has withheld from us of this world are better than His favours in what He has extended to us of it. That is because Allah, Mighty and Majestic, did not approve it for His Prophet ﷺ, so that I be in what He approved for His Prophet ﷺ is dearer to me than that I be in what He disliked and was displeased with for him." ʿAbdullāh said: It has reached me from one of the scholars that he said: "It is fitting for the scholar to praise Allah for what He has withheld from him of the desires of the world, just as he praises Him for what He has given him, lest what He gave him come to pass while the reckoning comes upon him; and for what He spared him, so He did not test him with it, which would occupy his heart and weary his limbs; so he thanks Allah for the stillness of his heart and the gathering of his aspirations."
