A man from the people of Ṣilah said to Ṣilah: "O Abū al-Ṣahbāʾ, I saw in a dream that I was given one martyrdom and you were given two martyrdoms." Ṣilah said: "You have seen something good. You will be martyred, and I and my son will be martyred, God willing." Then, on the day of Yazīd b. Ziyād, the Turks met them in Sijistān, and that army was the first of the Muslim armies to be routed. Ṣilah said to his son: "Go back to your mother." His son said: "O my father, you want good for yourself, and you order me to turn back? By God, you are better for my mother than I am." He said: "Since you have said this, then advance, advance." So he fought until he was struck down. He said: Ṣilah shot arrows, and he was a skilled archer, until they scattered; then he walked towards his son until he stood over him and made supplication for him. Then he fought until he was killed.
