machine translationAbū ʿAbdillāh the ḥāfiẓ informed us, he said: I heard ʿAlī b. ʿĪsā say: I heard al-Ḥusayn b. Muḥammad b. Ziyād al-Qabbānī say: Muḥammad b. Rāfiʿ narrated to us, Muḥammad b. Bishr narrated to us, ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿUmar al-ʿUmarī narrated it to me, from Yūnus b. ʿUbayd, from al-Ḥasan,

He said: A Bedouin came to ʿUmar and asked him about the religion. He said: "O Commander of the Believers, teach me the religion." He said: "You testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allah, you establish the prayer, you give the zakāh, you fast Ramadan, and you perform pilgrimage to the House. And hold to what is open, and beware of what is secret, and of everything you would be ashamed of." He said: "And when you meet Allah, say: ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb commanded me with this." Then he said: "O servant of Allah, take this, and when you meet Allah, say whatever appears to you." Al-Qabbānī said: "I said to Muḥammad b. Yaḥyā: Which is the preserved one, the hadith of Yūnus from al-Ḥasan from ʿUmar, or that of Nāfiʿ from Ibn ʿUmar? Muḥammad b. Yaḥyā said: The hadith of al-Ḥasan is more likely." And Abū Saʿd al-Mālīnī informed us, Abū Aḥmad b. ʿAdī the ḥāfiẓ informed us, al-Junaydī informed us, he said: al-Bukhārī said: "This one, with its being mursal, is more sound, meaning the hadith of al-Ḥasan from ʿUmar as mursal, because al-Ḥasan did not meet ʿUmar, and this is more sound than the hadith of Saʿīd b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Jumaḥī."
