He said: And he was trustworthy, fasting by day and standing in prayer by night. He said: Muqātil b. Ḥayyān narrated to us, from Ribʿī b. Ḥirāsh, from ʿAbdullāh b. Masʿūd, from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said: "When the first night of the month of Ramadan comes, the gates of the Gardens are opened, and not a single one of them is closed for the whole month; and the gates of the Fire are closed, and not a single one of them is opened for the whole month; and the rebellious jinn are chained. A caller calls out from the heaven every night until the break of dawn: 'O seeker of good, come forward and rejoice! O seeker of evil, hold back and take heed! Is there anyone seeking forgiveness, that we may forgive him? Is there anyone repenting, that we may accept his repentance? Is there anyone supplicating, that we may answer him? Is there anyone asking, that we may give him what he asks?' And Allah, Mighty and Majestic, at every breaking of the fast in the month of Ramadan, every night, has sixty thousand people freed from the Fire. And when it is the day of Fitr, He frees as many as He freed throughout the whole month, thirty times, sixty thousand, sixty thousand."
