أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أَخْبَرَنا أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا الْعَنْبَرِيُّ، حدثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ السَّلَامِ، حدثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ،
أن الْمُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مَنْصُورَ بْنَ الْمُعْتَمِرِ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَامِرٍ، قَالَ: جَلَسَ شُتَيْرُ بْنُ شَكَلٍ، وَمَسْرُوقُ بْنُ الْأَجْدَعِ فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا لِصَاحِبِهِ: حَدِّثْ بِمَا سَمِعْتَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ وَأُصَدِّقُكَ، أَوْ أُحَدِّثُ وَتُصَدِّقُنِي قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ يَقُولُ: " إِنَّ أَجْمَعَ آيَةٍ فِي الْقُرْآنِ لِلْخَيْرِ وَالشَّرِّ فِي سُورَةِ النَّحْلِ {إِنَّ اللهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ وَالْإِحْسَانِ وَإِيتَاءِ ذِي الْقُرْبَى وَيَنْهَى عَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنْكَرِ وَالْبَغْيِ يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ} [النحل: 90] " قَالَ: صَدَقْتَ

Shakal and Masrūq b. al-Ajdaʿ sat together, and one of them said to his companion: "Narrate what you heard from ʿAbdullāh and I will confirm you, or I will narrate and you confirm me." He said: I heard ʿAbdullāh b. Masʿūd say: "The most comprehensive verse in the Quran for good and evil is in Sūrat al-Naḥl: {إِنَّ اللهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ وَالْإِحْسَانِ وَإِيتَاءِ ذِي الْقُرْبَى وَيَنْهَى عَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنْكَرِ وَالْبَغْيِ يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ} [al-Naḥl: 90]" He said: You have spoken truly.
