He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to say to his Companions: "Has any of you seen a dream?" So whoever God willed would relate it to him. And one day he said to us: "Last night two comers came to me, and they raised me up, and they said to me: Go on. So I went with them, and we came upon a man lying down, and another standing over his head with a rock, and he was dropping the rock onto his head, crushing his head, and the stone rolled away over there. He would follow the stone and take it, and would not return to him until his head was restored as it had been. Then he would return and do as he had done the first time. I said: Glory be to God, who are these two? They said to me: Go on." – Then he mentioned the hadith, then said in the explanation – "As for the first man you came upon, whose head was being crushed with the stone, he is the man who takes the Quran and then rejects it, and sleeps through the obligatory prayer." Al-Bukhārī also narrated it from the hadith of ʿAwf.
