He said: A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of God, when is the Hour?" He said: "And what have you prepared for the Hour?" He said: "Love of God and His Messenger." He said: "Then you are with those whom you love." Anas said: "I was never made happier after Islam than I was by the saying of the Prophet ﷺ: 'Then you are with those whom you love.'" Anas said: "I love God and His Messenger, and Abū Bakr and ʿUmar, and I hope to be with them, even if I have not done deeds like theirs." And Muḥammad said in his narration: "even if I do not do deeds like theirs, because of my love for them."

machine translationMuslim narrated it in al-Ṣaḥīḥ, from Abū al-Rabīʿ, and al-Bukhārī narrated it from Sulaymān b. Ḥarb, from Ḥammād. Al-Bayhaqī, may God have mercy on him, said: "Once it is clear that love of the Companions is part of faith, then loving them means that one believes in their virtues and acknowledges them, recognizes for each of them who has a right his right, for each who rendered service in Islam his service, and for each who held a rank with the Messenger ﷺ his rank; that one spreads their good qualities, prays for good for them, follows what has come from them in the chapters of the religion, does not follow their slips and errors, does not deliberately disparage any of them by spreading what is not fitting about him, and stays silent about what there is no necessity to delve into of what occurred among them. And with God is success."
