ʿAbdullāh said: "A man [worshipped] for seventy years, and he used to say in his supplication: 'My Lord, reward me according to my deeds; my Lord, reward me according to my deeds.' Then he died and was admitted to Paradise, and he remained in it for seventy years. When he had completed them, it was said to him: 'Go out, for you have completed your deed.' He was struck with dismay, and he began to say: 'What was the firmest thing in the world?' He found nothing firmer in the world than calling upon Allah and humbling oneself before Him. So he began to say: 'My Lord, I heard You – while I was in the world – that You pardon slips, so pardon my slip today.' So he was left in it. And Allah the Most High knows best."
