Chain of narrators

machine translationAnd Abū al-Ḥasan b. ʿAbdān informed us: Aḥmad b. ʿUbayd informed us: Aḥmad b. Yaḥyā al-Ḥulwānī informed us: ʿAlī b. al-Jaʿd narrated to us: Hammām narrated to us, from Muḥammad b. Juḥādah, from al-Mughīrah b. ʿAbdillāh al-Yashkurī, from his father,

Machine translation, not reviewed

He said: I came to Kufa with a companion of mine to bring back sandals from it. We hurried to the market before it had been set up, and I said to my companion: "If only we entered the mosque." And there was a man from Qays called Ibn al-Muntafiq, and he was saying: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was described to me, so I looked for him in Mecca, and it was said: He is at Minā. So I looked for him at Minā, and it was said to me: He is at ʿArafāt. I reached him while he was in a company of riders among his Companions, and it was said: "Move aside from the path of the Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Leave the man; he has a need." So I drew near until the necks of our two mounts crossed, and I took hold of the rein of his mount, and he did not rebuke me or find fault with me. I said: There are two things I ask you about: what will admit me to Paradise and save me from the Fire? ʿAlī b. al-Jaʿd said in this hadith, on another occasion: "Although you have been brief in the question, you have asked about something momentous. Preserve from me: you worship Allah, associating nothing with Him, you establish the obligatory prayer, you pay the obligatory zakāh, and you fast Ramadan. And what you like people to do to you, do to them, and what you dislike people doing to you, leave people from it. Let go the path of the she-camel," or he said: "the mount." Hammām said: "As for the Hajj, he had performed Hajj by the time he asked him."

Notes

machine translationThis chain is more deserving of being sound. Ibn ʿAwn narrated it from Muḥammad b. Juḥādah and confused its chain. And Abū Isḥāq narrated it from al-Mughīrah, except that he did not give his lineage, nor did he give the lineage of Ibn al-Muntafiq.
