أَخْبَرَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَخْلَدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ خَبَّابٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عِكْرِمَةُ قَالَ كُنْتُ أُرَافِقُهُ وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ فَقَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِي

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِذَا رَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَخَانَتْ أَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَكَانُوا هَكَذَا» وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ فَقُمْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ كَيْفَ أَصْنَعُ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ جَعَلَنِي اللهُ فِدَاكَ؟ قَالَ «الْزَمْ بَيْتَكَ وَامْلِكْ عَلَيْكَ لِسَانَكَ وَخُذْ مَا تَعْرِفُ وَدَعْ مَا تُنْكِرُ وَعَلَيْكَ بِأَمْرِ خَاصَّةِ نَفْسِكَ وَدَعْ عَنْكَ أَمْرَ الْعَامَّةِ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When you see people whose covenants have become confused, whose trusts have been betrayed, and they are like this,” and he interlaced his fingers. I stood up to him and said: “What should I do then, O Messenger of Allah, may Allah make me your ransom?” He said: “Stay in your house, control your tongue, take what you know, leave what you reject, keep to your own private affairs, and abandon the affairs of the common people.”
