أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ كُلَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ قَالَ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَا عَلِيُّ سَلِ اللهَ الْهُدَى وَالسَّدَادَ» وَنَهَانِي عَنِ الْمِيثَرَةِ الْحَمْرَاءِ وَالْقَسِّيِّ خَالَفَهُ شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ كُلَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ بْنِ أَبِي مُوسَى

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Muḥammad b. Manṣūr
  2. Sufyān
  3. ʿĀṣim b. Kulayb
  4. Abū Bakr
  5. ʿAlī

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “O Ali, ask Allah for guidance and right direction,” and he forbade me from red saddlecloths and qassi (silk garments). Shu'bah disagreed with him on the authority of Asim b. Kulayb, from Abu Burdah b. Abi Musa.
