✧ Entering the slave to his mistress and his gaze at her

أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمِّي قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَنَّ نَبْهَانَ مَوْلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ كَانَ عَهِدَ إِلَيْنَا إِذَا كَانَ لِإِحْدَانَا مُكَاتَبٌ فَقَضَى مَا بَقِيَ مِنْ كِتَابَتِهِ فَاضْرِبْنَ دُونَهُ الْحِجَابَ أَخْبَرَنِي بِهِ عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعْدٍ فِي مَوْضِعٍ آخِرَ وَقَالَ «إِذَا كَانَ عِنْدَ الْمُكَاتَبِ مَا يَقْضِي عَنْهُ فَاحْتَجِبِي مِنْهُ»

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had enjoined us: when one of us had a mukatab (a slave with a contract of emancipation) who had paid off the remainder of his contract, we should put a veil between ourselves and him. Ubaidullah b. Sa'd reported it to me elsewhere and said: "When the mukatab has enough to pay off his contract, then veil yourself from him."
