أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ جَدِّي قَالَ
قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ عَوْرَاتُنَا مَا نَأْتِي مِنْهَا وَمَا نَذَرُ؟ قَالَ «احْفَظْ عَوْرَتَكَ إِلَّا مِنْ زَوْجَتِكَ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ يَمِينُكَ» قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَإِذَا كَانَ الْقَوْمُ بَعْضُهُمْ فِي بَعْضٍ قَالَ «إِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ لَا يَرَى أَحَدٌ عَوْرَتَكَ فَافْعَلْ» قُلْتُ فَإِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُنَا خَالِيًا فَقَالَ «فَاللهُ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُسْتَحْيَى مِنَ النَّاسِ»

✧ I said: O Messenger of God, our private parts—what may we expose of them and what must we conceal? He said: "Guard your private part except from your wife or what your right hand possesses." He said: I said: O Messenger of God, what if people are together, some with others? He said: "If you can ensure that no one sees your private part, then do so." I said: What if one of us is alone? He said: "Then God is more deserving that one be modest before Him than people."
