أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ
كُنْتُ أَغَارُ عَلَى اللَّاتِي وَهَبْنَ أَنْفُسَهُنَّ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَقُولُ أَوَ تَهِبُ الْمَرْأَةُ نَفْسَهَا لِلرَّجُلِ؟ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَعَالَى {تُرْجِي مَنْ تَشَاءُ مِنْهُنَّ وَتُؤْوِي} [الأحزاب 51] إِلَيْكَ مَنْ تَشَاءُ وَمَنِ ابْتَغَيْتَ مِمَّنْ عَزَلْتَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكَ قُلْتُ «وَاللهِ مَا أَرَى رَبَّكَ إِلَّا يُسَارِعُ لَكَ فِي هَوَاكَ»

✧ I used to be jealous of those who offered themselves to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I would say: 'Does a woman offer herself to a man?' Then Allah, Exalted is He, sent down: {You may defer any of them you wish, and take in marriage any you wish, and any you desire of those you had set aside; there is no blame on you} [al-Ahzab: 51]. I said: 'By Allah, I do not think your Lord but hastens to fulfill your desire.'
