أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ زَعَمَ عَطَاءٌ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُبَيْدَ بْنَ عُمَيْرٍ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ تَزْعُمُ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَمْكُثُ عِنْدَ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ فَيَشْرَبُ عِنْدَهَا عَسَلًا فَتَوَاصَيْتُ أَنَا وَحَفْصَةُ أَنَّ أَيَّتُنَا دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَلْتَقُلْ إِنِّي أَجِدُ مِنْكَ رِيحَ مَغَافِيرَ أَكَلْتَ مَغَافِيرَ فَدَخَلَ عَلَى إِحْدَاهُمَا فَقَالَتْ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَقَالَ لَا بَلْ شَرِبْتُ عَسَلًا عِنْدَ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ وَلَنْ أَعُودَ لَهُ فَنَزَلَتْ {يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ لِمَ تُحَرِّمُ مَا أَحَلَّ اللهُ لَكَ تَبْتَغِي مَرْضَاةَ أَزْوَاجِكَ} {إِنْ تَتُوبَا إِلَى اللهِ} [التحريم 4] لِعَائِشَةَ وَحَفْصَةَ وَإِذْ أَسَرَّ النَّبِيُّ إِلَى بَعْضِ أَزْوَاجِهِ حَدِيثًا لِقَوْلِهِ «بَلْ شَرِبْتُ عَسَلًا»

✧ The Prophet ﷺ used to stay with Zaynab bt. Jahsh and drink honey at her place. 'A'ishah and Hafsah conspired that whichever of us the Prophet ﷺ entered upon should say: "I detect on you the smell of maghafir; have you eaten maghafir?" He entered upon one of them and she said that to him. He said: "No, rather I drank honey at Zaynab bt. Jahsh's place, and I will not do so again." Then it was revealed: {O Prophet, why do you prohibit what Allah has made lawful for you, seeking the pleasure of your wives} and {If you both repent to Allah} [al-Tahrim 4], referring to 'A'ishah and Hafsah. And when the Prophet confided to one of his wives a statement, referring to his saying: "Rather I drank honey."
